“Great photography captures the essence of a moment; the subtle interplays of light and color, composition and feeling.”Born and raised on the island of Maui, Hawaii, Amity found her true passion in art. She left the islands after high school to pursue her artistic dreams, majoring in ceramic arts at Alfred University in upstate New York. Other medium, such as metal sculpture and glassblowing, became part of her broadening studies. Amity decided to take a photography class in order to document her ceramic and sculptural pieces, but soon discovered that her enjoyment and natural ability with a camera would be the catalyst for an artistic awakening. She started working in black and white, experimenting with depth-of-field, capturing movement and patterns in nature. She moved on to landscapes, installation pieces, portraiture and night photography. Amity moved naturally towards photojournalistic photography, incorporating her artistic vision with her background studies in psychology. With every challenge she realized she was heading towards her life’s ambition. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree / Photography, and since that time has been photographing anything and everything that inspires her.
